“I envy my daughter’s childhood.

That’s what inspires me to be doing this the most.”

“Mostly mothers, there were no fathers present, your regular kind-of stabbing on the street.
It was a funky-assed neighborhood in the ’60s, and the kids had to raise themselves.
You had to be kind of tough.”

And screenwriting is not something she appeared to envision for herself until recently.
I’m just focused on what I’m doing now.”
