Boyle maintained that her diagnosis didn’t change her, but gave her a far better understanding of herself.

Fellow recipients of honorary degrees from the school have included singer Annie Lennox and actress Tilda Swinton.

“I’m absolutely on top of the world,” Boyle toldBBC Newsshortly after the degree ceremony.

It’s healthy to challenge yourself and I do love a competition.”

Despite not being the last act standing, Boyle remained confident in her career.
