But what was his childhood really like for him in 1960s and 1970s Hawaii?
As the son of a Black man and a white woman, Obama did face discrimination and racism.
One incident he recalled occurred when he was just 10 years old and living in Hawaii.
“I was puzzled,” the former president recalled (viaPolitico).
“I said, ‘Do you want to come up,’ and she said no.”
