For years, she performed only in Spanish films.
However, there was a time when Cruz was passionate about a different kind of performing.
When she was young, the actress had big dreams of being a ballerina.
“That’s what I wanted as a little girl,” she toldInterview magazine.
Nevertheless, Cruz’s time training as a ballerina certainly gave her some useful tools for acting.
Just look at her dance number in “Nine.”
Even now, she and her family live permanently in Madrid (viaThe Local).
Clearly, Cruz’s Spanish heritage is hugely important to her.
“I’m very Spanish,” she toldEsquirein 2017.
“I love my city and I love my country.
The food, the culture.
And it’s where my mother is, my sister.
I’m very family-oriented.
This is a very Spanish thing.”
Cruz went on to explain that she always enjoys being with other Spaniards.
“I love that.
I love it!”
For Penelope Cruz, it was kind of the same story.
Soon she was being sent to casting sessions.
“Of course, I always had to lie about my age.”
And those weren’t the only lies she had to tell.
“I had to lie to my parents about the content of the script more than lying, omitting.
I just didn’t talk about the details,” she laughed.
She’s now in her 40s, and many would say that she is more beautiful than ever.

While her photography isn’t always easy or pleasant, it clearly means a lot to Cruz.
“With Bono, yes.
He told us [he was going to pull us on stage] and he said, ‘Come on.
You cannot say no,'” she recalled.
Apparently, she and her husband even had costumes for their performance.
However, Prince gave them no warning.
It was terrifying," she said.
“Because he was expecting us to dance and maybe to sing.”
Like all actors, she has her own unique process.
As she toldVogue France, her rituals change from role to role.
“I have a lot of secret rituals,” she said.
“Sometimes it’s through music or complete isolation for an hour before or meditation.”
However, Cruz isn’t superstitious about preparing to get on set.
For her, there is no “good luck charm” that can help her get into character.
Instead, she simply tries to concentrate and do lots of preparation.
“Sometimes that’s hard because you have to be in your own bubble,” she said.
Well, whatever her rituals are, they’re definitely working.
But for Penelope Cruz, social media isn’t something she enjoys especially when it comes to her kids.
“There is something that is not making sense and it’s especially affecting younger generations.”
And of course, it can lead to self-image issues and bullying.
She feels that it’s almost like a twisted “experiment.”
She said, “Let’s see what happens if you expose a 12-year-old to that much technology.”
So, Cruz likes to keep her children away from social media as much as possible.
Instead, she limits their technology time to movies and cartoons.
“No phones until they are much older,” she said.
However, it turns out, she’s not too keen on dancing the night away.
In fact, she always prioritizes her sleep over socializing.
“If I don’t have at least seven hours, I feel it later,” she toldRed.
“I can lose focus, I can get moody.”
“‘The great thing is, I’ve never been interested in drugs or alcohol,” she said.
“I do that once every two years!”

Luckily, she got the part!
She happened to pick up an old script during one of their FaceTime calls.
Apparently, Cruz has a very singular statue, thanks to her father.
Eventually, she let her father attach it himself.
